Newcastle United tracking Blackburn Rovers midfielder

Newcastle United are tracking Blackburn Rovers midfielder Lewis Travis, according to The Sun.

The 21-year-old has burst onto the scene at Blackburn this season and is enjoying a run in their first-team. He has played 13 games in all competitions for Tony Mowbray’s side.

Newcastle are believed to be keeping an eye on him after he impressed for Rovers against them in their recent FA Cup fixture.

The Premier League side are looking to bolster their squad in this January transfer window in a bid to stay in the top flight. However, they could face interest from up to five of their league rivals to sign him.

Travis has emerged as a target for Rafa Benitez’s side. The Merseyside-born midfielder, who can also play in defence, started his career at Liverpool. He joined the Reds in 2004 and rose through the youth ranks at Anfield.

He never made a senior appearance for Liverpool and departed them after ten years in their academy to join Blackburn in 2014. Travis made his first-team debut for the Ewood Park club in August 2017 in an EFL Trophy game against Stoke City’s Under-21’s.

Travis has since become a useful player for Mowbray and has grasped his opportunities this season. His versatility would come in handy for Newcastle and he would be a decent long-term signing for the Toon.

Blackburn will be desperate to hold onto him this month amid Premier League interest as they rate him very highly, though money talks.
