Should promotion chasing Norwich City take a gamble on Jordon Mutch?

Norwich City are keen on free agent midfielder Jordon Mutch, as reported by The72 yesterday.

The 27-year-old is weighing up his options after he was released by Crystal Palace earlier this month. He has spent the past year on loan in the Major League Soccer with Vancouver Whitecaps.

Career so far-

He came up through the Derby County academy before leaving for Birmingham aged 15. He made his debut aged 16 in 2008. He went onto play 24 times for the Blues and had loan spells out at Hereford, Doncaster and Watford.

In 2012, Birmingham sold Mutch to Cardiff City. In his first season with the Bluebirds they won the Championship title and were promoted to the top flight. However, they were relegated in their only season there and Mutch moved to QPR. After only five months Mutch made the move across London to join Crystal Palace in January 2015.

He has been at Palace ever since but has had loan spells at Reading and then Vancouver.

Should Norwich move for him-

Mutch is a player who has been promoted to the Premier League before so knows what it takes to get out of the Championship. This experience would come in handy for Norwich.

He would add more depth and options to their midfield. Mutch has played in the top flight and has genuine quality that could change a game.

The biggest question is his fitness and he is someone who has been injured and frozen out by managers in the past. His loan spell in the MLS meant he got some minutes under his belt which would have been good for him.

He is worth a punt for Norwich, even on short-term deal until the end of the season, and would strengthen their squad ahead of the promotion run-in.
