Leeds United are close to making their first signing in the January transfer window and just the third permanent under Marcelo Bielsa’s watch at the club. Kiko Casilla is expected in Leeds for his medical in the coming days ahead of a deal that will see Leeds buy out the remaining 18 months on his Madrid deal.
Leeds have also been reported to be keen on Swansea pair Dan James and Jefferson Montero. Both are very different players despite playing in the same position and it seems like Leeds want one or the other. The question would be, which would suit us currently? Both are talented and both are more than capable of making an impact at the club. Longer term thinking may play a part in which case you have to look at where Bielsa sees his team next season, which is difficult as we strive for promotion.

Dan James – 21
The longer term value of a deal would be a permanent move for Dan James, without a doubt. That said, obviously the value of promotion would be the most valuable overall. James is quick and clever and would be a player who still needs guidance and development when it comes to his career, Marcelo Bielsa and Carlos Corberan are showing just how effective they can be in doing that this campaign. Phil Hay has confirmed there is interest in the player from Leeds and he seems to be the first choice.
Jefferson Montero – 29
One of the quickest players in the country and on his day a match winner. The problem is he isn’t always consistent and he could be compared at times to a player we loaned from Swansea in Mo Barrow. In terms of immediate impact he could probably do more damage than James but both would add to the squad. A loan for Montero may well be the deal to get over the line.
