Leeds United to face Premier League club hijack of sought after star

In news coming from The Scottish Sun, Leeds United are facing a Premier League hijack of their chase of Motherwell starlet Stuart McKinstry.

The Premier League side looking to get a foot in the stirrups and gallop away with McKinstry are Southampton. The Scottish Sun’s mark Walker said earlier today that the Saints are looking to gazump Leeds United’s interest “after mounting a late bid.”

On Old Year’s Eve, the Daily Record’s transfer timeline (11:13) reported that Leeds United were ready to snap up the rated youngster “in a deal that could eventually land the Fir Park club up to £400,000.”

It went on to say that “Leeds have made their move and are set to take McKinstry south this week for talks and to show him the Elland Road set-up.”

Bringing in 16-year-old McKinstry would have continued Leeds United’s recent trend towards bringing in talented youngsters, be they in the domestic game or from the continent.

However, despite supposedly being close to sealing a deal for the youngster, it now appears to be a deal in jeopardy on account of Southampton’s late interest.

The Scottish Sun says that Leeds Unitedwill now have to fight off late competition from the Saints to land the promising kid.” This fight will hopefully be in Leeds United’s favour, although Whites fans have other transfer news on their mind.

Arriving early next week is reported to be Real Madrid keeper Kiko Casilla, with Leeds buying out the remaining 18 months of his contract.
