Middlesbrough youngster completes permanent switch to Forest Green

Middlesbrough have confirmed via their official website that young defender Nathan McGinley has made his loan move to League Two side Forest Green Rovers permanent.

The 22-year old has spent the first half of the season on loan at Forest Green from Middlesbrough, and has now completed a permanent move to the League Two side, who currently occupy sixth place in the table. He has played 21 times for Rovers, with 16 appearances coming in the league.

The defender is no stranger to League Two football, having enjoyed a successful loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers last season. He played 11 times as the Chairboys were promoted up into League One after finishing in third position.

McGinley has only played one game in Middlesbrough red, making his debut in the Carabao Cup earlier this season against Notts County. The defender played the full 90 minutes as the game ended 3-3, with Boro going through to the next round on penalties.

The defender is versatile and can play at centre-back and at left-back, and has been deployed in both positions so far at The New Lawn. He has been a key part of their team and their successes this season, and they are currently pushing for promotion having just been promoted from the National League last year.

McGinley has signed for his new club on a relatively short contract of just 18 months after a clause was activated to make the move permanent, and the transfer is believed to be free having been surplus to requirements at his old club Middlesbrough.
