Hull City want loan deal for Southampton striker

Hull City are keen on Southampton striker Sam Gallagher, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

Blackburn Rovers are also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old who spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Ewood Park.

The Tigers are looking to strengthen their squad in this January transfer window. They have also been linked with a move for Middlesbrough forward Ashley Fletcher as Nigel Adkins seeks out potential striking options.

Gallagher would fit the bill for Hull. He is set to leave Southampton for more first-team experience and has played in the Championship before. The 6ft 4inc striker is a handful at this level and would provide the Tigers with another dimension in attack.

Adkins will also know Gallagher from his time as manager of the Saints and will be hoping to use these links to lure him to the KCOM Stadium at the expense of Blackburn.

Gallagher started his career at Plymouth Argyle but moved to Southampton in 2012. He has since played 21 times for their first-team in all competitions, scoring twice.

He has also gained plenty of experience out on loan. Gallagher spent the 2015/16 campaign on loan at MK Dons but failed to score in 15 games. Nevertheless, he managed 12 for Blackburn in the season after and seven for Birmingham City in the last campaign.

Hull are in great form at the moment and are dreaming of a Play-Off charge. The possible loan signing of Gallagher would certainly boost their chances.
