West Brom show strong interest in 24-cap international – €3m release

According to Greek source Sportime, West Brom are showing “strong interest” in PAOK Thessalonika winger Amr Warda – a 24-cap Egyptian international.

West Brom sit 4th in the Sky Bet Championship table, five points behind leaders Leeds United. They already have a potent strikeforce, and are now looking to add to that with 25-year-old Warda.

Warda, who is said by the Sportlet article to be a key member of the Thessalonika side, has been under West Brom scrutiny for what they term “some time…in the eye of the club.”

Warda started out his football journey in his native Egypt with El Ahly, initially moving into their Under-23 set-up in 2013. A loan move two years later saw him spend six months on loan at Ittehad.

Returning from his loan was his last action in Egyptian football, with an August 2015 move to Panetolikos on a free transfer. He moved again in January 2017 to current club Thessalonika, a further loan deal seeing him spend August 2017-June 2018 on loan at Atromitos Athen.

He’s featured in 35 games across all competitions for Thessalonika, scoring three goals and adding four assists. This season he has featured in 21 games (six Champions League Qualifying ties) and scored once.

With West Brom watching him carefully, they will know that he is a player with goals in him. He’s hit 10 in 45 (six assists) during his loan spell at Panetolikos and 11-in-28 (seven assists) during his time at Atrimitos Athens.

A €3 million release clause, as stated by Sportlet, is a figure that will not prove to be an obstacle should the Baggies look to bring Warda to the English game and Sky Bet Championship football.
