Sheffield United star in shock Serie B transfer link

In news that is likely to shock and stun Sheffield United fans in equal measure comes news from Italy that star striker Billy Sharp is a wanted man.

The team showing interest is Serie B side Palermo, a side who sit five points clear at the top of Italy’s second-tier competition. Now, according to ‘Il Corriere dello Sport’, as cited here, the Italians are casting eyes ay the Blades and their striker Billy Sharp.

32-year-old Sharp is having a fantastic season for the 4th placed Blades, his 16 goals meaning that they are keeping touch with the early pacesetters in the Sky Bet Championship.

Palermo are said to be planning for upcoming June departures and that Sharp is a piece of that advance planning. The article cited says there has “emerged the possibility of landing Billy Sharp.”

Even turning 33 in February, Billy Sharp has shown, what with his displays this season, that he would be able to cut it in a competition like Serie B. Even the mention of interest in Sharp, be it domestic or foreign in nature, is bound to raise more than eyebrows in the red part of Sheffield.

Losing a player such as Sharp would raise severe questions as to how the Blades would sustain a tilt at promotion this season. Such is the importance of the former Southampton and Leeds United player to Chris Wilder’s squad, a goal-scoring replacement would need to be sourced.

The Blades play QPR at Bramall Lane on January 12, a match where they will hope to gain three points and keep the pressure on those sides at the top.
