Middlesbrough recall defender from League Two loan spell

According to Luxembourg Wort, Middlesbrough have recalled Enes Mahmutovic from his loan spell at Yeovil Town due to a lack of playing time.

The Middlesbrough centre-back played just four games on loan at Yeovil, and has since been recalled with the possible view to loan him out to another club in the EFL this transfer window.

Initially he was sent to Huish Park for valuable playing time, with his only appearances coming in the Carabao Cup this season for the Teessiders. He played his part in Middlesbrough’s cup run to the Quarter finals, scoring in the 3-3 draw with Notts County in the second round, a game which Boro went on to win 4-3 on penalties.

However, things haven’t worked out in Somerset for a number of reasons, with the Luxembourg international not even being part of the match day squad in the past four outings.

The last game the central-defender played in was the 2-1 home defeat to Forest Green Rovers on December 8th, but he has not featured in the squad since.

Yeovil currently sit one place above the relegation zone in League Two and could look for reinforcements elsewhere. Fellow-Middlesbrough loanee Alex Pattison is still on loan at the club having signed at the same time as Mahmutovic, although the midfielder has enjoyed a more successful spell.

Having played at right-back in the Carabao Cup this season, and with an injury to Ryan Shotton, Pulis could even be recalling Mahmutovic as a back up option to Dael Fry, who is deputising for the injured full-back.
