According to Scottish media outlet the Daily Record, Millwall are looking to open their January transfer window business with a loan raid on West Brom for starlet Olly Burke.
The 21-year-old Scot cost West Brom just shy of £14m when they brought him in from 1.Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig in late-August 2017.
This was a year after the Germans had splashed the same amount to take him to Germany in a somewhat shock move from Nottingham Forest.
His move to Germany brought about 26 appearances that returned one goal and two assists. Since his move back to England with West Brom, Burke has featured in 21 games for the Baggies, scoring once and providing three assists.
This season though, he’s only featured three times in West Brom’s Sky Bet Championship campaign, gaining just 46 minutes of on-field time. His last run-out was earlier this month in the 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. He has, however, impressed in the Premier League 2 competition, three goals and an assist coming from five games.
According to the Daily Record, “Millwall [are] heading a list of clubs south of the border” that are interested in taking the highly thought of youngster on a half-season loan deal.
Millwall face strong competition for his capture from Scottish giants Celtic who are looking to freshen up their options. The Daily record say that “the player is aware of an interest from Parkhead,”and that the Bhoys are monitoring his situation.
Millwall face a trip to Suffolk to take on Championship basement side Ipswich Town. Given that the January transfer window will be open, Lions fans may be licking their lips in anticipation that five-cap Scotland international Burke could land at the New Den.
Should the talented young winger make the move to London with Millwall, it will give the Lions more than an attacking shot in the arm.
