Aston Villa ‘star’ striker “opens talks” over move to former club

According to The Scottish Sun, Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack is involved in discussions with former club Motherwell over a return to Fir Park.

The 32-year-old was pictured at Motherwell at the weekend, watching them beat Hamilton 2-1. This sparked rumours that a move north of the border was being readied, sparks that have developed since it has been revealed that the striker has opened up a dialogue with the club he left 10 years ago.

He left Motherwell to join Cardiff City in his initial foray into English football. What followed then was a move to Leeds United, where he was highly successful. After that, two big money moves to Fulham and then Aston Villa were on the cards for the Scot.

However, his time at Villa has somewhat been a sour affair, McCormack last playing for the Midlands side over two years ago. A fall out with Steve Bruce, including a lax attitude to training, saw his cards marked at Vila Park.

He was farmed out to the Australian A-League, his first stint with Melbourne City bringing 14 goals from 17 appearances. He is currently injured, and receiving treatment at Villa, which has cut short his second stint in Australia at Central Coast Mariners.

Despite having to wait another month until he is fully fit, Motherwell do want him at the club. A source at the club told SunSport: “We are working on a deal, but it’s a long way off. A lot of things need to happen for the deal to go through, but we will try.”

The Scottish Sun also say that Villa are willing to “pay the majority of his wages to keep him out on loan” as they “don’t want him back.
