Aston Villa striker pictured at former club sparks January transfer rumours

Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack was pictured at Hamilton Academical’s Scottish Premiership clash with former side Motherwell – sparking rumours of a potential return to Scotland for the out of favour striker.

The Birmingham Mail are reporting that Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack could be heading for the Villa Park exit door in the January transfer window, with former side Motherwell reportedly keen on bringing the Scotsman back to his native country.

The picture below shows McCormack in the stands at The Hope CBD Stadium, watching Motherwell lose 2-1 to The Accies on Saturday afternoon.

Former Leeds United striker McCormack returned to Villa Park from his loan spell in Australian A-League side Central Coast Mariners earlier than planned, after picking up a knee injury whilst enduring the side’s worst league start in the club’s history.

In his time at Motherwell during the earlier stages of his career, McCormack scored 14 goals in 57 appearances whilst in Scotland, before moving south of the border and over another border to join up with Cardiff City.

In Wales, the striker scored 30 in 88, catching the eye of Leeds United. Elland Road was where the Scot made a name for himself. Playing 157 games, McCormack scored 58 goals and collected 31 assists during his four years spell with The Whites.

McCormack then swapped Leeds for Fulham, joining for a fee of £11 million. The striker enjoyed another prolific spell, playing 100 times for The Cottagers and scoring 42 goals.

After joining Aston Villa, McCormack’s career began to go downhill. He has scored only three goals in two years, playing 24 times. Unsuccessful loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Melbourne City and Central Coast Mariners have left him way down the pecking order at Villa Park.
