Walsall winger set for Preston North End switch

Walsall winger Josh Ginnelly is set to join Preston North End, according to the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old hasn’t played for the Saddlers since the Lilywhites made a bid for him and is expected to join them on 1st January.

Ginnelly only joined Walsall in June but has impressed for the League One side this season. He has played 22 games for Dean Keates’ side, scoring four goals.

The tricky winger started his career as a youngster at Aston Villa but joined Shrewsbury Town in 2013. He played three times for the Shrews’ senior side before he was snapped up by Burnley for an undisclosed fee in 2015.

Ginnelly never made a senior appearance for the Clarets but enjoyed loan spells at non-league side Altrincham, Walsall, Lincoln City and Tranmere Rovers. He won promotion from the National League in back-to-back seasons with Lincoln and then Tranmere.

Preston are looking to add some more players to their squad as they look to climb up the Championship table. Ginnelly is set to be the first through the door at Deepdale next month. He has never played in the second tier before but looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

Alex Neil’s side are currently 17th in the league and seven points off the relegation zone. They made a slow start to the season but have managed to turn it around. Can Ginnelly inspire them to further rise up the table?
