Reading midfielder hints at January exit

Dave Edwards has hinted at a potential exit from Reading next month, as per a report by Football.London.

The experienced midfielder has not played this season for the Royals due to a knee injury he picked up in pre-season.

Reading are currently without a manager but could have an overhaul of players in the January transfer window to reduce numbers in their large squad. They are 21st in the Championship and just above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Edwards, who joined the Royals in August 2017 for a fee in the region of £1 million, is out of contract at the Madejski Stadium in the summer and could be sent out on loan next month. He played 35 games last season and scored three goals.

The 32-year-old has said: “With me having six months left on my contract – looking from the outside in – I would seem an obvious one who might be sent out on loan or look to go elsewhere”.

He has also expressed his desire to help in Reading’s relegation battle if needed: “But I still feel I have a lot to offer the club and I am enjoying training at the moment. I’ll work my hardest to get in the team and come January, if I am told otherwise I’ll continue to do that.”

Edwards is a vastly experienced player and has racked up over 500 games in his career for the likes of Shrewsbury Town, Luton Town, Wolves and now Reading. He has also made 43 caps for the Wales national team.
