Sheffield Wednesday interested in Tranmere Rovers striker

Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood, as per a report by the Yorkshire Post.

The Owls are looking to bolster their squad in the January transfer window and have identified the in-form League Two forward as a potential option.

Norwood, who is 28 years-old, has scored 15 goals so far this season. His contract expires next summer at Prenton Park.

He scored 24 goals in all competitions in the last campaign to help Tranmere gain promotion from the National League and scored the winning goal in the Play-Off final against Boreham Wood in May.

Norwood played for the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace as a youngster before a spell at non-league side Eastbourne Town. He was then snapped up by Exeter City in 2009.

He made his debut for the Grecians in a third tier fixture away to Leeds United but made only three further appearances. Instead, the Eastbourne-born striker had loan stints at Sutton United, Forest Green Rovers and Eastbourne Borough before he was let go by Exeter in 2011.

Forest Green signed Norwood on a permanent deal in June 2011 and he turned out to be a huge signing for them. He scored 48 goals in 149 matches for Rovers in the National League prior to his switch to Tranmere three years ago.

Sheffield Wednesday are in need of some more attacking options and there will be plenty of names linked with a move to Hillsborough over the next couple of weeks. Could James Norwood make the step up to the Championship?
