Aston Villa midfielder attracting A-League interest

Aston Villa midfielder Mile Jedinak is a target for A-League expansion side Macarthur South-West Sydney FC, as per a report by Birmingham Live.

The 34-year-old’s contract at Villa Park expires at the end of the season and it appears likely that he will be leaving the Midlands, with a move back to Australia on the cards.

South-West Sydney’s director, Sam Krslovic, has admitted that their new side are interested in acquiring Jedinak. He has said, “He ticks all the boxes. He grew up in the area, he played in the area, he’s from the area, captained the Socceroos, won the Asian Cup as captain, went to two World Cups”.

He also added, “He would stand for what the club’s about. That’s what we are – we’re about giving local players an opportunity and people from the area something to aspire to, both men and women”.

Aston Villa paid a fee in the region of £4 million to sign Jedinak following their relegation from the Premier League in 2016 from Crystal Palace. He made nine appearances so far this season.

Jedinak started his career in Australia with spells at Sydney United and Central Coast Mariners before moving to Turkey in 2009 to join Genclerbirligi. He had a brief loan spell at fellow Turkish top flight side Antalyaspor before he was signed by Crystal Palace in 2011 on a free transfer.

The Australian international has enjoyed his past eight years in England but a move back to Australia to end his career would be a fitting end for him.
