An updated five potential candidates for the Reading FC job

Reading are still searching for a new manager after sacking Paul Clement last week. Here is an updated five potential candidates for the vacant position-

Phil Parkinson, Bolton Wanderers- He is now the odds-on favourite for the job. Could he swap one side in relegation trouble for another? Parkinson, who has also previously managed Colchester United, Hull City, Charlton Athletic and Bradford City, played over 350 games as a player for Reading.

Luis Castro- The 57-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Madejski Stadium recently. The former Porto, Rio Ave and Chaves manager would be a surprise appointment by the Royals. There were rumours yesterday that he had turned down the job, but he is still listed in the running to replace Clement.

Steve Bruce- The experienced boss is available after his sacking by Aston Villa earlier this season. Bruce has won promotion to the Premier League twice as a manager and knows the Championship very well after spells with the likes of Villa, Birmingham City and Hull City, amongst others.

Gareth Ainsworth, Wycombe Wanderers- He is an outsider for the Royals’ post. Ainsworth has done an impressive job with the Chairboys and guided them to promotion to League One last season on a shoestring budget.

Vítor Pereira, Shanghai SIPG- It is a possibility that Reading could go down the route of appointing a foreign manager and Pereira is another name in the hat. He has had a well-travelled managerial career and has been in charge of the likes of Porto, Al-Ahli, Olympiakos, Fenerbahce and 1860 Munich in the past.
