Former Queens Park Rangers star playmaker linked with return to the Championship

Former Queens Park Rangers star Adel Taarabt is being linked with a return to the England, with Championship clubs keeping an eye on the playmaker.

Portuguese website Record is reporting that Adel Taarabt could return to the Championship in January, after falling way down the pecking order with Champions League side Benfica in Portugal.

29-year-old Taarabt is far from recreating the form that saw him become on of the most exciting players in the Championship season of 2010/11. The playmaker was a crucial part of a side that finished top of the pile, winning promotion to the Premier League. In 44 Championship games, Taarabt knocked up an impressive 19 goals and 21 assists.

However, after their promotion to the Premier League, things started to go downhill for Taarabt and QPR. Since then, neither have been able to reach those heights again. The Moroccan international was sent on loan to Fulham and AC Milan, before joining Portugal’s Benfica in 2015.

The playmaker has not made a single appearance for the Portuguese giants, playing seven reserve games. He was sent to Italy on loan for the 2017/18 season, joining Genoa, where he played 28 times.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Taarabt will be hoping that he can secure a move away from Portugal to return to first team football. It is reported that Championship sides are taking a look at the former QPR star. However, there have been no direct approaches, despite reported interest.
