Disappointing loan spell under former Leeds United boss could mean young defender returns to Elland Road

Peterborough United brought in Leeds United’s young defender Tyler Denton on a season-long loan deal in the January transfer window. Since his arrival, Denton has failed to make an impact and could return to Elland Road prematurely.

Leeds United defender Tyler Denton could return to his parent club early, after failing to make a good impression during his loan spell at League One side Peterborough United.

In an interview with the Peterborough Telegraph, Peterborough United manager Steve Evans discussed the club’s plans for the January transfer window.

“The chairman is here in December,” Evans said.

“I will discuss potential signings with him. There are one or two who are not contributing much so if they leave we might have the chance to do something.

“I can only make the proposals. It’s up to the chairman to make the decisions. I will respect whatever decision he makes.”

One player that could be set for the chop is Leeds United’s 23-year old defender Tyler Denton. The left-back has largely struggled in his time with the League One club, and it may be better for him to return to the Championship side earlier than planned.

Former Leeds manager Steve Evans has been opting to use fellow summer arrival Colin Daniel as his first choice left-back. Daniel has been inconsistent throughout the season, and has come under fire for his poor performances in the first few months of his Peterborough United career. So, to see that he has been selected over Denton on 19 occasions this season is worrying for the young defender.

Denton enjoyed a promising pre-season with The Posh, being deployed at left midfield as well as in the back four. He showed his attacking capabilities with goals against local non league sides, but has failed to carry this impressive form into the League One season.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a spell of four starts while Daniel was suspended, maintaining his place in the side when Daniel returned. However, with Evans looking to prepare his squad for the second half of the season as he looks to mount a promotion charge with The Posh, Denton could be forced to return to Leeds.
