The72 Championship Team of the Week Matchday 20: Bowen brace puts Hull City safe

Norwich City were forced to come from behind against Rotherham United at Carrow Road to keep their spot at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table.

Leeds United edged out a top-of-the-table clash, which saw them beat Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United 1-0 at Bramall Lane.

Aston Villa continued their surge in form, beating Middlesbrough 3-0 at the Riverside Stadium during Saturday’s evening fixture.

There was a six-goal thriller at Ewood Park, where Blackburn Rovers were 4-2 victors over Sheffield Wednesday.

The pressure is building for Paul Lambert’s Ipswich Town, who are now seven points off safety following a 2-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

As we have reached 20 rounds of fixtures in this season’s Championship, here is our Team of the Week, based on match rating statistics from

Goalkeeper: Lee Camp (Birmingham City) 7.58

A clean sheet from Birmingham City’s Lee Camp helped them to beat Preston North End 3-0 at St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium.

Camp made four saves to deny the Lilywhites, earning back-to-back clean sheets for the first time in the Championship this season.

Defender: Maxime Colin (Birmingham City) 8.09

Full-back Maxime Colin provided an assist for the Blues during their win over Preston. The French defender created Jacques Maghoma’s goal shortly after the hour mark.

He also won four tackles, a total only matched by teammate Maikel Kiftenbeld and Preston’s Ryan Ledson.

Defender: Tendayi Darikwa (Nottingham Forest) 8.64

Tendayi Darikwa was the star man for Forest as their 2-0 win over Ipswich moved them up to fifth.

He created the second of Lewis Grabban’s two first-half goals and made four clearances as Aitor Karanka’s team extended their unbeaten run in the league to seven matches.

Defender: James Chester (Aston Villa) 8.64

Villa captain James Chester led by example during their 3-0 win away at Middlesbrough on Saturday evening.

The Wales international got Villa’s opening goal in the 20th minute, his fourth in the league this season; the joint-most for any defender alongside Blackburn’s Charlie Mulgrew.

Midfielder: Jarrod Bowen (Hull City) 10.0

Hull City’s 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road, which moved them out of the relegation zone, was largely down to a magnificent solo performance from winger Jarrod Bowen, who is this week’s Player of the Week.

Bowen netted the Tigers’ first and third goals of the match, as well as creating Markus Henriksen’s first league goal of the season to put them two goals clear midway through the first half.

Midfielder: Maikel Kiftenbeld (Birmingham City) 8.88

Kiftenbeld was the star man as Garry Monk’s side remained unbeaten for the tenth consecutive Championship match at home this term.

The Dutch midfielder scored Birmingham’s opener in bizarre fashion, as his long ball forward trickled through the legs of visiting goalkeeper Declan Rudd and in. He also created Che Adams’ goal in the final 15 minutes to clinch the victory.

Midfielder: Craig Conway (Blackburn Rovers) 8.45

In the highest-scoring game of the weekend, Blackburn were 4-2 winners over Sheffield Wednesday, moving them up to 10th place in the table.

Wide-man Craig Conway completed 94% of his attempted passes in the match, 11% more than any other player to have started the match.

Midfielder: Todd Cantwell (Norwich City) 9.75

As Daniel Farke’s side maintained their place at the top of the league table, it was midfielder Todd Cantwell who stole the show in East Anglia.

The 20-year-old levelled the match early into the second half with his first senior goal in English football, before creating Maximillian Aarons’ goal 17 minutes later.

Forward: Harry Wilson (Derby County) 8.68

Winger Harry Wilson was on hand with two goals in the space of ten minutes to earn Derby County a 2-1 victory over Swansea City at Pride Park.

The on-loan Liverpool wide-man has netted five Championship goals in his last five games. His total of eight for the season makes him the Rams’ top goalscorer in all competitions.

Forward: Danny Graham (Blackburn Rovers) 9.86

Rovers striker Danny Graham will feel incredibly hard done by to have not been named as this week’s star man. He scored three of Tony Mowbray’s four goals against the Owls, and created their other goal, which was converted by Bradley Dack.

It was Graham’s first ever hat-trick in the Championship and only his second ever senior trio of goals for a single game, with his last coming for Carlisle United during a 4-1 victory over Yeovil Town in August 2008 in Sky Bet League One.

Forward: Lewis Grabban (Nottingham Forest) 8.51

Grabban’s first-half brace makes him the Championship’s new top goalscorer with 14 goals.

In all competitions, Grabban has scored 11 goals in his past 10 matches and has been responsible for 36.6% of Forest’s 41 goals this term.
