Kevin Nolan turns down AFC Wimbledon job

Kevin Nolan has turned down the AFC Wimbledon job, according to the Daily Mail.

The 36-year-old was offered the chance to manage the League One side on a two-and-a-half year deal but has rejected it meaning the Dons’ search for a replacement for Neal Ardley goes on.

Nolan has been in the hunt for a new job after he was harshly sacked by League Two side Notts County at the end of August. He has also been linked with the managerial vacancy at Shrewsbury Town.

He is a familiar name amongst English football fans after spells as a player with Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and West Ham United. He played over 600 games as a player and has since delved into management.

Nolan became the player-manager of Leyton Orient in January 2016 and was in that post for six months. He then took over Notts County in January 2017 and steered them away from relegation danger in his first season at the club.

He then guided the Magpies to the League Two Play-Offs last season in which they lost to Coventry City over two legs. Then after a winless run of six games at the start of this campaign, Nolan was sacked.

Nolan will not be returning to the dugout with AFC Wimbledon. The Wombles will have to look elsewhere for their next boss. Other candidates for the position are their former player Wally Downes, Russell Slade and Shaun Derry. Whoever it is will have a tough job on their hands.
