Surprise update on Leeds United’s goalkeeper saga after talks between Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United will not be bringing in a new goalkeeper on loan, CEO Angus Kinnear has confirmed after talks took place between Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta.

Leeds United have been suffering from somewhat of an injury crisis over the passing weeks of the Championship season, with key players and back up players being ruled out left, right and centre.

Most recently, loaned in ‘keeper Jamal Blackman broke his leg in a reserve game against Birmingham City, after clashing with Blues forward Beryly Lubala. The injury to Chelsea’s Blackman left Bailey Peacock-Farrell as the only senior ‘keeper available for selection.

However, ahead of Leeds United’s game against Bristol City, it was revealed that 22-year-old Peacock-Farrell had complained of a knee injury in a training session, ruling him out of last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Lee Johnson’s side. In between the sticks was youngster Will Huffer, with fellow academy shot stopper Kamil Miazek on the bench.

Huffer kept a clean sheet on his debut, reassuring Leeds United fans in the midst of a ‘keeper crisis. Thankfully, it was revealed that number one Peacock-Farrell will be available for selection for Tuesday night’s game against Reading, where he is expected to make his return.

In the match programme for The Whites’ clash with The Royals, CEO Angus Kinnear notes that discussions have taken place between Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta. The result of these talks was that United will not be looking to bring in a ‘keeper, and Bielsa will keep his faith in Peacock-Farrell in between the sticks.

If needs be, the Argentine and Orta have decided that young shot stoppers Huffer and Miazek are both capable enough to step in if they are called upon.

The news comes as a massive surprise, with Leeds being linked with ‘keepers for the last few weeks. David Stockdale, Tom Heaton and Jonathan Bond are three names that were thrown into the hat, but it seems set that none of these links will develop into anything serious.
