Carlos Corberan’s Leeds United U23 side ended a good weekend for the club with a victory over Yorkshire counterparts, Sheffield United. A brace from Tyler Roberts and a further strike from Kun Temenuzhkov.
Welsh International Roberts, who has three goals to his name for Marcelo Bielsa’s side opened his account for the under-23 side in the first-half with a penalty after Manchester City loanee Jack Harrison was tripped in the box.
Former Barcelona man Temenuzhkov then doubled the Whites’ lead with a deflected strike past Marcus Dewhurst as Leeds headed into the half-time interval with a two-goal advantage.
A Tyler Roberts wonder goal made it three just after half-time, he will be hoping his two-goal haul will keep him in Bielsa’s plans with Kemar Roofe back on the score-sheet and Patrick Bamford primed to return to action before too long.
The South Yorkshire side did manage to pull one back through Simon Oure with seven minutes to go, but in truth it was too little too late as Leeds moved up to fourth in the Professional Development League and ended a two game losing run.
Along with the aforementioned duo of Roberts and Harrison, first-team squad members Ryan Edmondson and Jamie Shackleton featured, while Kamil Miazek deputised for Will Huffer and Jamal Blackman having been on the bench for the weekend win over Bristol City.
Aapo Halme was missing as he continued to be involved with the first-team, with another appearance in the offing if Pontus Jansson fails to return in time for Tuesday night’s game against Reading.
Leeds’ next game is a visit to the north-east to face Newcastle United in the Premier League Cup at the home of the Northumberland FA.
