Middlesbrough to battle Serie A trio for highly rated Swiss youngster

Middlesbrough are set to go head-to-head with Serie A trio Torino, Parma and Udinese for Switzerland youth international Stephane Cueni, according to Italian paper Calciomercato.

Midfielder Stephane Cueni is on the radar of Championship side Middlesbrough, and they look set to face competition from Italian sides Torino, Parma and Udinese.

Cueni’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and could be available on the cheap in the January transfer window. The youngster currently plays for Team Vaud, the youth squad of Swiss second division side FC Lausanne-Sport, and they could look to cash in on the youngster while they still can.

However, as the captain of the Under-18s side, it is clear to see that the Swiss side rate the midfielder highly, and will be keen to keep him if they can. Cueni’s main position is in centre midfield, but can also play on either wing if needs be. He has represented Switzerland at three youth levels, playing for the Under-16s, Under-17s and Under-18s.

The youngster has played every minute of 10 games out of 11 in the Swiss U1 Elite League this season, missing just one game because he was with the club’s Under-21 side instead.

In his time with the Team Vaud Under-18s, Cueni has made 36 appearances for the Lausanne-Sport youngsters, picking up three goals from the midfield.
