Derby County battle Brazilian giants for Chelsea Samba star transfer

According to Yahoo Esportes, Derby County are slugging it out with Brazilian giants Corinthians in a battle to land Chelsea’s Brazilian striker Lucas Piazon.

The linked article (above) says that Corinthians president Andres Sánchez has made a trip to Europe and that “one of the reasons” for this trip is to check out Piazon who is a focal point of Corinthians’ interest for 2019.

Yahoo Esportes says that Sánchez is “currently in London, England, to deal with the subject.” This ‘subject’ is said to be the repatriation of the Brazilian back to his country of birth after a torrid time at Chelsea. Since signing for the Blues in January 2012, the Sao Paolo-born youngster has made just three first-team appearances.

His time at Chelsea has been punctuated with a series of loan deals out of the club, loans that have seen him play on the continent for Malaga, Eintracht Frankfurt and Vitesse Arnhem whilst also featuring for Reading and Fulham domestically.

However, Corinthians could be blunted in their interest to bring Piazon home, with Yahoo Esportes mentioning that Chelsea are said to prefer to deal with “another European club.”

Mentioned in the article are none other than Derby County who are, of course, managed by former Blues legend Frank Lampard. The Rams currently sit 6th in the Sky Bet Championship table, just five points shy of top spot held by Norwich City.

Piazon is very accustomed to life in the Championship, and in his loan deals taking in Reading and Fulham has shown that he knows his way around the division. In his 73 games at this level, the Samba star has scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists.
