“Potentially going to be a super player” – Tony Mowbray excited for the future of Blackburn Rovers star

In the summer transfer window, Blackburn Rovers completed the permanent signing of attacker Adam Armstrong from Premier League club Newcastle United for just £1.75m, and manager Tony Mowbray is excited to see just how good the youngster can be.

When Adam Armstrong joined Blackburn Rovers for £1.75m, both Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers fans questioned the price, but for different reasons. Toon Army fans think they could’ve got more for the exciting youngster, while Rovers fans were happy that they were on the good end of the deal.

While not contributing lots of goals or assists in the early stages of this season, Armstrong has played an important role in Rovers’ strong start to the season. The 21-year-old has only been involved directly in four goals this season, scoring once in the Championship and three in the EFL Cup.

Despite this, manager Tony Mowbray is more than pleased with the attacker’s performances this season. He told the Lancashire Telegraph:

“I’ve worked with Adam for a long time now, thinking back to our days at Coventry City, and know how electric he can be on his good days. He had a hot day (against Rotherham).

“I think he’s learning the game, he’s trusting when we’re telling him to stay out wide because sometimes he wants to come in to the middle and get involved.

“His attributes are his fantastic speed and tight control and sometimes just to isolate him one-on-one with a defender is a tough day for the full back.

“He has to trust us when we tell him to stay out wide, not go running inside, yet he’s not a winger.

“He’s a wide striker for us, he threatened the goal as well as creating chances and I’m sure he will only get better and stronger as we move forward.

“The money we’ve paid for him, he’s potentially going to be a super player.”
