“Absolutely gutted” – Derby County fans react as duo set for “lengthy” spells on the sidelines

Derby County announced this afternoon that left back Craig Forsyth and winger Mason Bennett are both set for “lengthy” spells on the treatment table, after picking up “significant injuries”.

Derby County defender Craig Forsyth has suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage, now making it the third time the Scotsman has suffered a serious injury in a matter of years. He ruptured his cruciate ligament in the 2015/16 Championship season, and picked up another ACL injury in the 2016/17 Championship season, which saw him miss 48 games of football.

Academy graduate Mason Bennett earned his way into manager Frank Lampard’s plans after the arrival of the former Chelsea captain, making 17 appearances in all competitions so far this season. Fans label the 22-year-old as ‘one of their own’, after he became the club’s youngest ever player when he made his debut for The rams aged just 15 years old in 2011.

Unsurprisingly, Derby fans have been largely supportive of the duo upon the announcement, wishing both Forsyth and Bennett the best of luck in their recovery ahead of their long spells out of the game.
