Young Nottingham Forest hotshot nets twice on return to parent club

Young Nottingham Forest forward Virgil Gomis scored twice for the club’s Under-23 side this evening as they defeated Midlands rivals Leicester City 2-1 in the Premier League Cup at Holmes Park.

The 19-year-old striker is rated highly by coaches at The City Ground and the player is thought to have been on the fringes of the first team towards the end of last season.

Gomis is currently enjoying an initial 28-day loan spell at National League strugglers Braintree Town where he has scored one goal in three appearances. With The Iron having not been in action this weekend, the striker returned to parent club Forest to feature in this evening’s Premier League Cup fixture and Gomis will have impressed many as he bagged both goals for Jimmy Gilligan’s side.

Despite coming under some early pressure from home side Leicester City, Forest took the lead just after the half hour mark at Holmes Park when Gomis fired in with the player having time and acres of space to pick his spot.

The Reds were ahead for just nine minutes before the home side levelled matters through a stunning strike from Khanya Leshabela.

The winning goal came late on in the second half with striker Gomis again showing predatory instincts by smashing the ball into the net from point blank range.

Gomis could feature for loan club Braintree Town once again when they welcome Solihull Moors to Cressing Road on Saturday in The National League.
