“Simply not good enough” – Leeds United fans left fuming with poor display from this player

Leeds United were thrashed 4-1 by West Bromwich Albion, as Darren Moore’s side scored all four goals in a second half rampage of Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Goals from Hal Robson-Kanu, Matt Phillips, Harrison Barnes and Dwight Gayle put West Brom 4-0 up, before Leeds United’s Pablo Hernandez scored a late consolation goal two minutes into stoppage time.

Leeds United dominated possession throughout the game, finishing the game with 72% possession. However, The Whites failed to do anything worthwhile with the ball and couldn’t convert their possession into goals, having 15 shots but only three on target.

There were no stand out performers for United, but goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s performance was highlighted for all the wrong reasons. Matt Phillips’ effort from long range went through the hands of the Northern Ireland international to double The Baggies’ lead.

Bielsa made a point after the game that the defeat was not his ‘keeper’s fault.

“He saved some goals. I don’t think he has a high percentage of responsibility for the defeat,” Bielsa told the Yorskhire Evening Post.

“I don’t like to talk deeply about good things or bad things by one individual player, especially after a game like this one and especially when we lost with such a difference in the score. But what I can tell you for sure is that our goalkeeper is not responsible for the defeat.

“The spaces the opponent found to attack made it easier to score the goals they scored. It (the defeat) has to do with the design of the game more than the efficiency of the goalkeeper.”

The ‘keeper also made a mistake against Birmingham City from a Che Adams long distance effort, leading to defeat – just as his error versus West Brom.

Leeds United fans were understandably angry with their side’s overall performance, but made a point to criticize Peacock-Farrell too.
