Millwall suffer shock setback with striker ruled out until next season with freak ligament injury

Millwall striker Tom Bradshaw has been ruled out until the end of the season with knee ligament damage, Neil Harris has revealed. The injury was sustained in The Lions’ Tuesday night match with Brentford.

Despite sustaining the injury mid game, The Wales international played on and completed the game, thinking he had just suffered a knock.

The striker was convinced the injury was “nothing” and went through post-match warm-downs and the changing room debrief, before discovering the injury on Sunday after a scan showed a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament. He discussed his disappointed on his Instagram page on Sunday morning:

On Tuesday, the striker will undergo surgery on the tear – the first step in a long road of recovery for the former Barnsley man.

“Tom Bradshaw has done his knee ligaments and is going to be out for the season”, Lions manager Neil Harris told football.london.

“That’s put perspective into that– yes, disappointed of course – but Tom is a big loss for us. We will work tirelessly with him to get him back on the training pitch, hopefully pre-season, and we look forward to him being a big part of the club in the future.

“It happened at Brentford in the game. It’s one of these crazy modern-day injuries. He did it a couple of minutes after coming on, did the debrief in the changing room and then did the fitness exercises afterwards. We didn’t know till Sunday night and then the scan on Monday showed he had a ligament tear.

“You could have knocked me over with a feather. Tom was convinced it was nothing and that he’d be back training Thursday.

“The physio department had their concerns, but Tom was convinced he would be on the training pitch on Thursday preparing to be involved today.

“It would have been nice today to get a positive result for him.”
