Doncaster Rovers eye £250,000 swoop for Cork City defender

Doncaster Rovers are lining up a move for Cork City defender Sean McLoughlin, according to the Independent.ie.

Representatives from the Yorkshire side went to watch the 21-year-old in action for Cork on Sunday during their FAI Cup final defeat and are now ready to move for him in the January transfer window.

Cork beat off a lot of competition, including some from English clubs, to land McLoughlin in the summer of 2017 and he has been a key player for them ever since. He is being tipped for a big future in the game and with Doncaster showing a keen interest in him, it will be tough for the Irish side to keep hold of him over the coming months.

Prior to joining Cork, McLoughlin had a hugely successful spell with University College Cork (UCC) where he helped them win both the Munster Senior League and Collingwood Cup as a youngster.

League One side Doncaster are no strangers to delving into the Irish league to sign young talent. They snapped up young defender Shane Blaney from Finn Harps last season. The 19-year-old defender is currently out on loan at non-league outfit Grantham Town for more first-team experience.

Donny have made a decent start to life under new boss, Grant McCann. The former Peterborough United manager made some shrewd signing for them over the summer such as Mallik Wilks on loan from Leeds United and Ali Crawford from Hamilton Academical.

Could Cork defender Sean McLoughlin be the next signing through the door at the Keepmoat Stadium?
