Former West Ham and Peterborough United midfielder on Portsmouth’s radar

Cork City’s star midfielder Kieran Sadlier is being monitored by League One leaders Portsmouth, according to the Portsmouth News.

Portsmouth already have one Irish star in the form of goalscoring winger Ronan Curtis, but he could be joined by Cork City playmaker Kieran Sadlier, as manager Kenny Jackett is reportedly lining up a move for the 24-year-old.

The SSE Airtricity League Premier Division has now finished, and Sadlier is out of contract and is set to become a free agent, meaning he will available on a free transfer.

The playmaker can play on either wing or in centre-attacking midfield position, but played a significant goalscoring role for the Rebel Army. In 34 games this season, Sadlier scored 16 goals, making him the second top scorer in the league. His 16 goals in the League were accompanied by another 10 goals in domestic competitions, taking his total to 26 for the campaign.

The Irishman started his youth career with League Two side Cambridge United, before moving to West Ham. After eight years with The Hammers, Sadlier had a few months with St. Mirren, before moving to League One side Peterborough United in 2015.

He spent just one season with The Posh, making just one appearance. In 2016, he returned to Ireland with Sligo Rovers, scoring 15 in 48 from 2016 to 2017.

The midfielder’s time at Peterborough United was far from successful, but Sadlier has come on leaps and bounds since his time at London Road. The 24-year-old enjoys taking on full backs, and can score from all over the pitch. His technical ability is far above the level of the Irish League, and could made a significant impact if he ends up joining Pompey.
