Birmingham City striker set for return after international break

Birmingham City Isaac Vassell is closing in on his return from injury, as per a report by Birmingham Live.

This is some positive news for the Blues as Garry Monk’s side are in good form at the moment and the close return of Vassell will give them another option in attack.

The 25-year-old has been out of action since last October when he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury in a fixture against rivals Aston Villa. He then suffered a set-back over the summer but has now fought back and is nearly ready for his return after more than a year out.

The Blues boss Garry Monk has said, “Isaac should be joining us for training in the international break, after the Hull game. That’s so far, so good in his rehab.”.

Vassell signed for Birmingham in July 2017 from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in excess of £1 million. He played ten games last season in the Championship before his injury, scoring once.

He started his career at Plymouth Argyle and rose through the youth ranks at Home Park. He went onto make ten appearances for their first-team as well as enjoying loan spells at Truro City, Bideford and Weymouth.

Plymouth released Vassell in 2014 so he resigned for Truro on a permanent deal. He scored 28 goals for them in 94 games which earned him a move to Luton in 2016 after a trial.

Birmingham then signed him after he managed 14 goals in the 2016/17 season in League Two. His long-awaited return has been eagerly anticipated by the Championship side.
