Aston Villa and Derby County to go head-to-head for Chelsea’s international youngster

Aston Villa are preparing to rival Derby County’s chase for Chelsea starlet Ethan Ampadu, according to Birmingham Live.

Derby County manager Frank Lampard revealed that he held very brief discussions with Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri regarding the possibility of signing Wales international defender Ethan Ampadu on a season long loan deal for the 2018/19 Championship season. However, the deal failed to materialize, as Sarri decided that Ampadu would be playing a part in his squad throughout the season.

Despite this, Ampadu is yet to make a first-team appearance for Chelsea, despite what manager Sarri said when Lampard enquired about the youngster’s availability.

Now, it is thought that The Rams could be lining up another loan bid for Ampadu, but are set to be challenged by Championship rivals Aston Villa in their chase for the starlet. The Villains have reportedly made an enquiry about a possible loan move for Ampadu, as they look to snatch him away from Frank Lampard.

Birmingham Live went on to say that Villa’s enquiry about Ampadu has received the same response as Lampard’s approach, with Sarri keen to personally monitor and manage the youngster’s development.

Both clubs will look to use their strong connections to Chelsea, with Rams manager Derby County already loaning in Chelsea youngsters Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori – who have both impressed massively under Chelsea’s all time top scorer.

Former Chelsea captain Terry will also be looking to use his links to The Blues in his first transfer window as Aston Villa assistant manager.
