Nottingham Forest put in a terrible display on Tuesday night as Burton Albion defeated the Championship side 3-2 to progress to the Quarter-Final of the Carabao Cup.
Manager Aitor Karanka was left “angry and embarrassed” by his side’s defeat to League One strugglers Burton Albion – and the club’s fans are not happy either. Few players put in good performances as Karanka made 10 changes to Saturday’s side against Leeds United, and it didn’t pay off.
Scott Fraser’s effort was heavily deflected off defender Saidy Janko, before the Scotsman doubled The Brewers’ lead just over ten minutes later. Substitute Lewis Grabban pulled one back to make it 2-1, before on loan midfielder Jake Hesketh smashed in a volley to restore Burton’s 3-1 lead. Youngster Arvin Appiah brought the lead back to just one goal in stoppage time, but Nigel Clough’s side held on to win 3-2.
The defeat has left Forest fans reeling, and they have vented their anger on Twitter.
Sunday league performance. 11 changes on Saturday hopefully #nffc

So bad all over the pitch, all at sea in defence, losing the ball in the middle of the park & inviting the counter and then defending like a bunch of amateurs, sorry that’s an insult to amateurs actually! Scored two goals god knows how… so angry right now, so much for “depth”!!

We were well beaten. Too many changes. Wasted opportunity again. Good luck look to Burton who deserve to progress. We don't.

Embarrassing, which is PRECISELY what I've come to expect from Forest 🙃

Made far too many changes and under estimated Burton which you can’t do in cup competitions, especially when it was our first chance to make the quarter finals for 25 years! 😞🔴 #NFFC.

Fair play to Burton tonight, Karanka put out a team he thought and trusted could do the job but they let him and us down. Far too many average/poor performances and not enough desire to win. Burton players all more up for it and for what they deserved. Annoying but true #NFFC

I remember going to Wembley in the cup all those times in the late 80s, early 90s. I love a cup run…. had we won tonight, as much as i want to, I still don't believe for a second we'd win it. Sorry. I'm no longer a football romantic. #nffc
