Leeds United manager spotted checking out loan defender

One thing’s for certain this season, what Marcelo Bielsa’s new look Leeds United side are purring under his stewardship.

They currently sit in a very healthy 2nd in the table, and are a side that have only suffered two losses all season in the league. The Whites are also a pared-down, lean squad – the type of squad that Marcelo Bielsa insists on as the optimum that he can work with.

Yes, Bielsa’s insistence on running with a limited first-team set-up has given fans the glorious football they’ve experienced, as well as providing much hope that promotion is on the cards. This philosophy has come at a price though, with injuries nibbling away at who he has available at his disposal.

For example, no sooner had Leeds gained back Gaetano Berardi from injury than they lost him again. The latest player to make the abrupt move from pith to treatment room is Luke Ayling, the popular right-back out for two months with medial ligament damage. That news is made a little sweeter with knowledge that Barry Douglas is on his way back.

With there being something of a mini-injury crisis at Elland Road at the moment, and with the next transfer window over two months away, anything Bielsa does garners interest.

Interest such as was evident tonight when news broke that the Leeds United manager was at Harrogate’s CNG Stadium ground.

Bielsa is renowned for being passionate about football, passionate in that he analyses everything to the nth degree. He’s obviously gone to the CNG Stadium to check out on-loan defender Liam Kitching – the youngster being at the North Yorkshire club on a season-long loan.

What’s refreshing about this episode is that Bielsa could easily have sent along another member of his staff to check on the youngster. Instead though, as can be seen in the above posts, he’s gone himself to run the rule over the on-loan central defender.
