Former Crystal Palace and Wolves forward joins West Brom

Former Crystal Palace winger Bakary Sako has joined Championship club West Brom on a free transfer, after his release from Palace at the end of last season, the club have confirmed.

West Brom confirmed the signing of Bakary Sako on a contract that will run out at the end of this season, the club have confirmed.

The 30-year-old winger left Crystal Palace at the end of the season, after spending three years at Selhurst Park, from 2015 to 2018. He joined The Eagles from Wolves in 2015, where he impressed massively, scoring 38 goals and assisting 36 times in 124 appearances for Wolves.

Baggies manager Darren Moore is thrilled with the arrival of the Mali-international, as he bolsters his attacking options further. He told the club website:

“He brings great experience and adds greatly to our goal threat across a range of positions. We’re delighted to get him.

“He brings competition to the group and a know-how of this division. He’s been a credit to himself while he’s been training with us and I can vouch for the fact that the way he has committed to us has been exceptional.”

Sako revealed to the club website that manager Moore was one of the main drawing points to The Hawthorns, and that he was wanted by Premier League clubs, but wanted to move to West Brom to play under Moore. He said:

“He played a big part.

“A lot of Premier League clubs wanted me but as soon as I knew Darren wanted to see me I went to see him straight away and we clicked.

“The way he manages players, the way he talks, he’s passionate and I love that, that’s why I came here.”

The winger could be involved as early as Wednesday night, as West Brom travel to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday. If not involved on Wednesday, the winger could still be involved as early as Saturday, when Reading visit The Hawthorns.
