Aston Villa outcast discusses his loan move

Aston Villa outcast Ross McCormack has openly discussed his recent loan switch to Australia, as reported by the Hyundai A-League’s official website.

The 32-year-old was frozen out of Villa’s first-team by manager Steve Bruce, who had an infamous bust-up with the forward in January 2017. After enjoying a loan spell with Melbourne City last season, he returned to Australia last month with a move to Central Coast Mariners.

The turbulent nature of his time in the Midlands didn’t stop him scoring 14 goals in 17 games for Melbourne and the former Leeds United marksman will be hoping to shine in the A-League once again.

He spoke glowingly about his new club’s set-up after settling into the new surroundings:

“It was always in my head because I enjoyed my time at Melbourne City that much. When it came around I spoke to the manager and the owner, and Nick Montgomery as well who I know from England.

“In terms of the club, I’ve been impressed by the standard of training, the intensity of training, the standard of the players as well. It seemed the right club at the right time and I’m happy to be here  There are some right good players here, some good young kids.

“It’s been just over a week now with the boys. It’s been thoroughly enjoyable – the lads have been great. It’s been easy for obviously myself and Tommy (Oar, a fellow new recruit), coming in at the same time, to settle in. All in all it shapes up to be a good season.”

Whereas McCormack is enjoying life down under, his former teammates have struggled to meet the expectations of Villa supporters. The Villans lie 15th in the Championship table, with under-fire boss Bruce failing to silence his critics. After just one win in nine games, Bruce’s men will be desperate to pick up three points at Preston North End’s expense this evening.
