How we only came away from Hillsborough with a point last night is anyone’s guess. After an even first-half we came out of the blocks powerfully in the second period and the only thing missing was the finishing touch from inside the area. Mateusz Klich grabbed what is a crucial point with a wonderful goal.
Player Ratings
Baily Peacock-Farrell – 7 – Nothing he could do about the Adam Reach strike. Probably one of the best goals I’ve seen in person and he did the rest very well. Distribution much better on the night.
Luke Ayling – 8 – In all honesty we battered Sheffield Wednesday and most of the attacking threat came down the right-hand side. Ayling and Harrison have formed a good partnership and looked very good going forward last night.
Pontus Jansson – 9 – One of his best games this season. Solid and could do nothing about the goal. Seems to be very happy playing the Bielsa way as well.
Liam Cooper – 8 – Very good defending last night but did have a few sloppy moments on the ball. Did play some beautiful cross field passes so it evened itself out.
Barry Douglas – 8 – The timing of his tackles when a player is running at him is very impressive. He waits and waits and as soon as it’s slightly over hit…bang. A very good performance.
Kalvin Phillips – 7 – Although he started the game in central midfield he almost moved into a right-sided centre-back role in the second. Steady on the ball and good off it. A few too many long balls maybe but did his job.
Mateusz Klich – 9 – #T72MOM – One of those performances that makes you wonder why he wasn’t picked up by a top club years ago. Made the pitch his own, one turn changed the dynamics of every attack and that goal, just wow!
Jack Harrison – 7 – I thought Harrison played well last night. Yes he was wasteful at times but his interplay with others and ability to make room in tight areas was great. Caused Sheffield Wednesday all sorts of problems.
Gjanni Alioksi – 5 – I feel like it’s coming to a head with Alioski very soon. He’s underperformed in many games this season and although Bielsa clearly rates him I can’t see Pablo Hernandez taking the place of Jack Harrison. So wasteful in the final third.
Samu Saiz – 7 – I have such high thoughts on Saiz that when he makes the slightest mistake I feel disappointed. His touch and movement was brilliant but he just couldn’t pick that final pass out.
Tyler Roberts – 7 – Didn’t get the goal but his movement and work rate for the team was brilliant. Often making angled runs in behind so we could get up the pitch quickly. Should have scored, but so should half of the team.
