Depleted Swansea looking for result at home to Queens Park Rangers

Swansea City host Queens Park Rangers at the Liberty City Stadium looking to end a three-match winless run, in which The Swans have failed to score since a 2-1 win with 10-men for most of the match at Millwall.

Graham Potter’s side head into the match in 14th place having taken 13 points from their opening nine matches.  QPR are two places and three points behind Swansea in the table, but have had something of revival in recent weeks winning three and losing just one of their last four league fixtures, after losing their opening four games.

Potter has enjoyed a solid start to his time in charge of Swansea, despite having had to sell off a host of key members of the squad that was relegated from the Premier League last campaign, with the likes of Alfie Mawson, Lukas Fabianski, Federico Fernandez, Kyle Bartley, Jordan Ayew, Andre Ayew, Sam Clucas and Ki Sung Yeung all departing in the summer.

Swansea supporters have also been critical of the club’s lack of spending in the summer transfer window, which saw them bring in Bersant Celina, Joel Asoro, Declan John, Barrie McKay, Yan Dhanda and Cameron Carter Vickers. Despite those additions Potter is having to cope with the rigorous demands of a Championship campaign, with a paper-thin squad that has been further hampered by injuries at the start of the season.

Injuries to the midfield quartet of Bersant Celina, who was forced off in Swansea’s goalless draw with Nottingham Forest after a challenge from Saidy Janko, Leroy Fer, who was forced off through injury in The Swans’ 2-1 win at Millwall, Tom Carrol, who suffered a hip injury and Jay Fulton, who suffered a head injury, have left the likes of Kyle Naughton and Matt Grimes operating in a makeshift midfield in recent games.

However, ahead of Saturday’s meeting with QPR both Tom Carrol and Jay Fulton could be back in contention for a return to the starting line-up, after both made the bench for last weekends goalless draw with Middlesbrough. Also, Potter speaking to Swansea’s official website confirmed that both Leroy Fer and Bersant Celina are both in contention to return to the squad against QPR, “They’ve both been making good progress. Hopefully, they will have had enough training and be available for selection on Saturday.”

With those four returning to fitness The Swans will be confident of regaining their early season form, which saw them win three and lose just one of their opening six matches back in the Championship. QPR, meanwhile will be looking to extend their recent upturn in form and recover from last weekend’s 1-0 defeat home to Norwich City.
