Leeds United’s unbeaten streak in the Sky Bet Championship came to an end on Matchday 9 after they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City.
Middlesbrough was unable to take full advantage of Leeds slipping up, as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Swansea City, moving them level on points with the league leaders.
Reading picked up their first home victory of the season, as their 3-0 win over Hull City propelled them out of the relegation zone.

Goalkeeper: Erwin Mulder (Swansea City) 7.62
Swansea fought hard to earn a goalless draw against in-form Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
Goalkeeper Erwin Mulder made five saves as he kept his second clean sheet in the space of three matches.
The Dutchman has conceded just five times in his eight league appearances this season and is part of the reason why they have the league’s second-best defensive record.
Mulder will hope to continue his fine run of form when Graham Potter’s side hosts Queens Park Rangers in their next match on Saturday.
Defender: Andy Yiadom (Reading) 9.11
Reading defender Andy Yiadom is this week’s player of the week after his stellar role in Paul Clement’s side’s 3-0 victory over Hull City.
Yiadom scored, provided an assist and helped his side to keep a clean sheet as they earned their first win of the season at the Madejski Stadium.
The 26-year-old set-up their second goal of the game when he unselfishly squared the ball to Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, who doubled the hosts’ lead.
He then completed the scoring in the final ten minutes to cap off his excellent solo performance.
Defender: Chris Basham (Sheffield United) 8.30
Defender Chris Basham got his first goal of the season during Sheffield United’s 3-2 victory over Preston North End at Bramall Lane.
Basham netted the Blades’ second goal of the match, heading in Oliver Norwood’s in-swinging corner over Preston goalkeeper Chris Maxwell and in.
He won seven aerial duels against the Lilywhites, only defensive partner Jack O’Connell (10) won more.
Alongside Mark Duffy, the duo were the only two members of the home side to complete all of their attempted tackles.
Defender: Craig Dawson (West Bromwich Albion) 8.30
Craig Dawson captained West Bromwich Albion to a 2-0 victory at home to Millwall.
Only club colleague Ahmed Hegazi (8) won more aerial duels than the Baggies captain, who was successful on five occasions in the air.
He completed 61 passes during the match, six more than any other player.
Dawson led by example and also made three tackles against Millwall, only Jay Rodriguez (4) completed more.
Right-midfield: Adam Reach (Sheffield Wednesday) 8.14
Adam Reach provided an assist as Sheffield Wednesday moved into the top half of the Championship table with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
Reach’s inventive pass created the Owls’ opener at Villa Park, with Marco Matias scoring the goal.
He completed four of his five attempted dribbles, the most of any player in the match.
The winger also made six key passes, twice as many as the next best player, Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia (3).
Centre-midfield: Mason Mount (Derby County) 8.41
Derby County teenager Mason Mount continued to impress for the Rams against Brentford at Pride Park.
In the 28th minute, Mount’s free-kick put Frank Lampard’s side 3-1 up against the Bees, which proved to be the final goal of the game.
Mount made three kay passes in the match, the joint-highest amount in the tie, alongside fellow Ram, Craig Bryson.
Three of his five shots against Brentford were on target and he had more attempts on goal than the entire visiting side.
Centre-midfield: Bradley Dack (Blackburn Rovers) 8.52
Blackburn Rovers midfielder Bradley Dack starred in their 3-2 victory against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.
Dack opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a close-range effort that fired in off the inside of the post.
He then set up Harrison Reed, who gave the visitors a three-goal advantage shortly after half time.
The midfielder could have made it 4-0 shortly after scoring, but his rebounded effort was denied by the post.
Left-midfield: Marco Matias (Sheffield Wednesday) 8.14
Matias was the star man at Villa Park during the Owls’ victory over Villa.
The Portuguese wide man opened the scoring from outside of the penalty area, his second league goal in the space of a week.
He completed 15 of his attempted 16 passes against Steve Bruce’s side and his 94% accuracy was the joint-highest out of players to have started the match.
With two of his three attempted shots ending up on target, his accuracy of 67% was only bettered by Villa goalscorer, John McGinn.
Striker: Che Adams (Birmingham City) 8.7
Birmingham’s 2-1 win over Leeds at Elland Road saw them pick up their first league victory of the season.
Striker Che Adams scored both of their goals in the opening half an hour in Yorkshire.
His opener came in the eighth minute when his curling effort caught out Leeds goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell.
Adams doubled the Blues’ advantage 20 minutes later, with another goal from outside of the penalty area, which again, could have been prevented.
Striker: Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (Reading) 8.19
Reading’s comfortable victory over Hull saw Bodvarsson continue his impressive start to the season.
Bodvarsson netted from close range to get a third of the match for Clement’s side.
The Icelandic has already scored five goals for his side this season, making him the Championship’s joint-third top goalscorer.
Clement’s squad have only scored 12 league goals in the current campaign, 42% of which have come courtesy of the 26-year-old.
Striker: David McGoldrick (Sheffield United) 8.21
The Blades’ summer signing from Ipswich Town, David McGoldrick, netted United’s winner against Preston.
Just three minutes from time, McGoldrick secured victory after tucking away Enda Stevens’ cross at the end of his darting run into the penalty area.
McGoldrick had six shots in the match, but his only one on target proved to be pivotal.
Since arriving in Yorkshire, the 30-year-old has scored just twice for his new side, both of which have been match-winners against QPR and Preston respectively.
