“It’s always great going back there” says Bolton and former-Middlesbrough defender

Bolton Wanderers travel to Middlesbrough this evening as both sides aim to get back to winning ways after suffering defeat last time weekend.

A player that knows plenty about both Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers is David Wheater, with the defender having grown up on Teesside, and played for his home town club since 1997 in the youth teams, until he departed for the North-West in 2011.

Wheater has given his thoughts on returning to Middlesbrough ahead of the clash this evening:

“It’s always great going back there,” he said in an interview with The Bolton News. “It’s just a shame it’s a midweek game because I don’t have any time to see anyone.

“Bolton’s home for me and the family now but they usually treat me okay when I go back. It’ll be tough at Boro, they are going well. But we’ll give it our all and see what we can come back with.

“It’s great playing in your hometown ground where you watched players when you are growing up as well. It’ll always be nice going back there. It’s fantastic.”

Wheater made his professional debut for Wolverhampton Wanderers after going out on loan in 2006 from Middlesbrough, and made his Boro bow just one year later after injuries to three first-team centre-backs. He went on to play over 150 games for his boyhood club.

Since making the switch to Bolton, the defender has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the trotters, and has since been given the captains armband this season by Phil Parkinson.
