Why Chris Martin can rekindle his Championship career at Hull City

Hull City swooped to sign Derby County striker Chris Martin on the loan deadline day as Nigel Adkins looked to bolster his attacking options.

The experienced Championship striker has joined the Tigers on loan having spent the last two campaigns on loan at Fulham and Reading respectively from the Rams. Here is why he can rekindle his career in East Yorkshire-

He will be a key player

Martin has scored 63 goals in 181 games for Derby County which shows he is proven at this level. His first-team chances with the Rams have been limited over recent seasons, hence why they have loaned him out, but he will no doubt get his opportunity at Hull City.

The Tigers have been short of attacking options so far this season and Martin is expected to slot into their attack, either alongside Fraizer Campbell or as a lone man.

Play to his strengths

Hull have been crying out for a striker who can hold the ball up well over the past few campaigns and Martin is ideal for this. Nigel Adkins’ side will play to his strengths and Martin holding the ball up will allow him to get creative players like Evandro and Jarrod Bowen to play off him and get more involved.

The 29-year-old will also offer the Tigers more firepower in attack and more of a presence, which has been lacking recently.

It was not long ago since Chris Martin was one of the most sought-after strikers in the Championship. Last season was a write off for him as he could not get a consistent run in the starting elevens at either Derby or Reading. However, he did manage 10 goals in 30 games for Fulham (average of 1 in 3) in the 2016/17 season which is not a bad return. It proves what he is capable of when given the chance to impress.

Martin managed a combined 52 Championship goals in 3 seasons for Derby from 2013 to 2016. It is this type of goal scoring form that has got Hull City fans excited about landing him and rightly so.
