West Brom ace delighted with attacking partnership

West Bromwich Albion star Jay Rodriguez has spoken out on his attacking partnership with Newcastle United loanee Dwight Gayle in an interview with the club’s official website.

The Baggies have enjoyed a solid start to life back in the second tier of English football following last season’s humbling relegation, picking up ten points from their first six outings, and the attacking partnership between Rodriguez and Gayle has struck off in similarly impressive fashion.

Speaking to the club website, Rodriguez said: “It’s really good to play with Dwight. He’s come in and he’s a great lad off the field. He’s fit in perfectly. The stuff he does on the field; he’s quick, he’s sharp, he works hard. We’ve seen how good his finishing is.”

“The first goal, especially against Stoke, was different level. It was a key moment for us to score and he kept a cool head. It’s things like that that you buzz off it.”

“We talk a lot and we’re trying to work out little things we can do when we’re up against different types of defenders, and we’ll continue to do that. We’ll continue to do that and hopefully our partnership grows.”

Albion’s attacking duo have notched a combined seven goals so far this season and will be hoping to continue that run this weekend as the Baggies travel to St. Andrew’s.

The forward also offered some words on Friday’s trip to Birmingham:

“It’s one to look forward to, hopefully the atmosphere is going to be good. Birmingham will be a tough game, like every game in the Championship.

“But we know we have got a lot of hard work to do, the main thing is to get the three points no matter how we get it.

“Playing Friday night gives us the opportunity to put pressure on teams.Hopefully we can get a good result on the Friday then sit back and watch it unfold on the Saturday. Little things like that do help.”
