Aston Villa targeting two free agent centre-backs

Aston Villa are keeping tabs on defensive duo Robert Huth and James Collins, as per a report by Birmingham Live.

Steve Bruce’s side were keen on resigning John Terry on a free transfer but it appears he is set for a move to Russian side Spartak Moscow. Therefore, the Championship outfit are plotting moves for potential alternatives.

Villa were linked with a move for Robert Huth over the summer and could move for him now. The 2016 Premier League title winner left Leicester City at the end of the season and is in the hunt for a new club.

The 34-year-old, who has 19 caps for the Germany national team, has bags of experience in the English game and is a good option for Villa. He has had spells at Chelsea, Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Leicester and has racked up over 400 career appearances.

Another defensive option who Villa are looking is James Collins. The Wales international has played for the Midlands side before from 2009 to 2012 and could return there now. He has been training with Championship side Ipswich Town recently.

Collins left West Ham United at the end of the season and played 15 games for them last season which shows he is still fit and able to play. The 35-year-old has not played in the Championship since 2005 when he was at Cardiff City.

It will be an interesting next couple of weeks for Aston Villa with Steve Bruce still looking for potential free transfer signings. They are also interested in former Wolves and Crystal Palace winger Bakary Sako, as reported by The72 earlier today.
