Highly rated Leeds youngster signs new deal with club

To say there is no game for Leeds United this weekend it’s turning out to be a hectic couple of days. The under 23’s starred in a 5-0 win at Elland Road yesterday, Mateusz Klich started for Poland in Italy, Baily Peacock-Farrell is the new Northern Ireland number one and Callum Nicell has penned a new deal with the club.

Nicell is the latest youngster to pen a new deal with Leeds United and it comes less than 24 hours since he bagged a cracker for the under 23’s. Nicell, a central-midfielder by trade has played in a couple of different roles this season under Carlos Corberan but turned in a sensational performance in the deep-lying midfield role yesterday against Bristol City. He scored the second to help ease away from the away side and was instrumental in the victory.

The 18-year-old has represented the Republic of Ireland youth teams a few occasions already and given his ability and potential you would think he’ll be involved again in the near future. His goal yesterday wasn’t juts a great striker but part of a move that started with him between the two central defenders picking a pass out. His ability on the ball is such an attribute.

He reminds me a lot of Lewis Cook in the way he moves about the pitch, a low centre of gravity and technical ability. He is of that similar mould although Cook’s development into the first-team was crucial at a younger age that Nicell currently is. Carlos Corberan has been working hard in developing the talent in the ranks at Leeds United. Nicell, similar to Jamie Shackleton has been at the club since a very young age. Perhaps one of the next players to experience some first-team football.
