An in-depth article by The Birmingham Mail has given the lowdown on Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah’s failed move to Middlesbrough on deadline day.
The Aston Villa wide-man looks to be surplus to requirements at Villa Park, and after bringing in Everton’s Yannick Bolasie and Anwar El Ghazi from Lille on season-long loan deals, Adomah looked for a move away on deadline day.
Middlesbrough and Leeds United were the clubs reportedly interested in signing the Ghanaian international on loan, but after previously spending three years on Teesside, he preferred a move back to Middlesbrough over a switch to Elland Road.
Adomah was on his way to Middlesbrough’s training complex Rockcliffe Park with just hours to go before the loan window shut. But the move broke down over the type of deal each party wanted.
Adomah wanted to move to Middlesbrough on loan, with a view to buy on a permanent deal in January or at the end of the season. However, Boro only wanted the winger on a temporary basis, and didn’t want to commit to anything longer term.
Villa’s manager Steve Bruce was looking to offload Adomah, in order to bring in Crystal Palace’s Jason Puncheon. Middlesbrough were also interested, but both Adomah and Puncheon stayed put at their respective clubs.
The report also suggests that a new contract is no longer on offer, and the player will be moving on at the next available opportunity. There were reports that Adomah’s contract could be terminated which would allow him to move freely to another club. But at the moment, it looks as though he will stay to fight for his place; at least until January.
