Blackburn Rovers complete deal for Premier League winning midfielder

Blackburn Rovers have announced the signing of midfielder Jack Rodwell on a short-term deal, the club have confirmed.

Former Everton, Manchester City and Sunderland mifielder Jack Rodwell has joined Blackburn Rovers on a deal which will see him stay at Ewood Park until the end of the season.

Rovers manager Tony Mowbray hasn’t been shy in stating that he has been keen to bring in some reinforcements before the end of August, and has brought in one of his main midfield targets.

Midfielder Jack Rodwell endured a nightmare spell at Sunderland after joining from Manchester City back in 2014. Rodwell’s spell at Sunderland included a 1,370 day spell without a victory, then-manager Chris Coleman publicly questioning where Rodwell was mentally, and massive controversy over his extortionate £70,000 weekly wages in the Championship. However, his horror spell at the Stadium of Light came to an end after his contract was terminated in June.

The midfielder was linked with moves abroad and seemed close to a move to the United States. However, manager Tony Mowbray reportedly held successful talks with the midfielder and agreed a deal, which will see Rodwell spend the 2018/19 Championship season at Ewood Park.

Rodwell provides further midfield reinforcements for Mowbray, as he looks to build a team strong enough with significant depth to help them stay in the Championship after last season’s promotion from League One.

Rovers are also close to bringing in Southampton midfilder Harrison Reed on loan for the season, beating Championship opposition to his signature after a successful loan spell at Norwich City last season.
