Leeds United failed midfield signing nudges closer to exit

It was a signing first broached by Leeds United Director of Football Victor Orta in a Facebook Live cast to fans as he answered their questions. Now it can unequivocally be called a disaster as Yosuke Ideguchi looks set to leave Leeds United.

Orta announced that Ideguchi was to become a Leeds United player when announcing the arrival of Pawel Cibicki, calling the Japanese star’s arrival a “surprise” from Asia. It was, indeed, a surprise with Ideguchi one of Japan’s rising stars, a player looking destined to feature in this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

However, after Leeds United messed up his chance of featuring for the Blue Samurai in Russia with a doomed loan to Cultural Leonesa, he failed to make the cut. He also has failed to make the cut at Leeds United, with Marcelo Bielsa not seeing a future for him this season at the club. With that in mind, comes news from German 2.Bundesliga side SPVG Greuther Fürth that Ideguchi has become their man.

The German side’s website says that they have taken Ideguchi from Leeds United on a loan that is “valid until the end of the season,” whilst also admitting that they have an option to purchase him at the end of the loan deal. Greuther Fürth’s sporting director goes on to say about their capture of Ideguchi that “Yosuke is a young, very talented midfielder. We will help him to be able to integrate with us and give him the necessary time.”

For his part, the 12-cap Japan international says that he is looking forward to playing in Germany and has been training with the club today.
