Blues defender praises early Ipswich Town support

Ipswich Town defender Janoi Donacien has praised the support from Ipswich Town fans so far this campaign.

The defender joined the Blues on-loan from Accrington Stanley but is due to stay permanently once his work permit is finalised.

However, Donacien produced his best performance of the season so far as he restricted Albert Adomah’s chances in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

Played in front of a crowd of almost 18,000 – the second time in as many home fixtures the crowd has exceeded or come close to the 18,000 mark – the Blues defender felt the team’s strong work ethic payed evident as they drew with Villa, but the home support further increased their chances of earning a point.

“It was a good battling display,” the defender said. “It took a lot for us to come back, especially from a goal down against a good team that should be up there this year.

“We just stuck at our jobs and kept going to the end.

“To be fair, in the first game of the season against Blackburn I felt like the fans were all the way behind us. At the end, we were signing autographs for the fans and they were just happy to see us.

“Everyone seems to be gelling well together.

“Everyone at the ground and the club is really nice. Everyone just wants to see you do well. Everyone’s behind you. It helps when you have really good people behind you, especially if you have a bad day.”

Speaking from an opposition’s point-of-view, Villains boss Steve Bruce admitted that the strong Blues support assisted the side favourably.

“They were always a threat, the crowd got behind them and there’s obviously a different atmosphere.

“A new manager, new players, a lot of them from the lower divisions wanting to make their mark and they did that fantastically well, they were great and the crowd were excellent too to help them.”
